Velvet – Fall fashion trends 2016
Say hello to Velvet. The 90’s love-hate trend is back – everything in velvet. It’s taking over the fabric trend like nobodies business. It’s not only for evenings or the party season. It’s the new IT thing – the new modern suit. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is done in velvet.
Your summer slip dress is now available in velvet and you can keep on wearing your favorite layering trends throughout the colder weather. Go for a dressy girly blouse and suit for the perfect boy meets girl vibe. And it’s not only slip dresses that’s in velvet, there are other types of dresses like the mini body-con with long sleeves and a high neck that can tick the box. If you are more of a pant person you could try out velvet pants or even a jumpsuit. The suit (probably my favorite) is the best way to stay on top of the trend and looking absolutely fierce. Add accessories like chokers to give a cool vibe. I understand that velvet can be extremely tricky to dress in, especially when you are not size 0 and a model type. Velvet just visually tends to make you look slightly bigger so I advise to be really careful of what item you will get. Fitted long-line blazers are a great way to add velvet to your wardrobe and most likely will look very good. Now the next step would be outerwear – bombers mainly or a fitted coat (but that would fall under the blazer category). Go for a deep burgundy, deep green or even blue for a touch of color or stay basic with black. If clothing is way too overwhelming in velvet then don’t worry you can still find a way to this trend. Shoes! Yes, once again the ankle boots have made a step forward into a velvet version. For more daring people the velvet over the knee boot is a refreshing solution. You can also go for velvet chokers, shawls or bags. Just get a cute velvet choker and pair it with a velvet studded rucksack.
